Well I guess that puts an end to my cartoon looking HDR photos. Now I can process them so you are not sure if they are HDR or not which looks way better. Look out Gavin, you might have some new competition! Great course, excellent teacher that is truly passionate about what he does and the workshop was fun.

What a great way to spend a afternoon! Even if you are past the beginner stage in your photography it is great to go out to some different locations and get the perspective of somebody. Gavin was a great teacher with lots of great tips and nobody was left out. I will be heading to the west coast to try out some of these new techniques this weekend, can’t wait! Thanks Gavin! I was impressed with the workshop, in part because of all the highlights mentioned in other reviews, but also because Gavin’s questions and instruction forced me to get reacquainted with my camera. I quickly realized I’d been getting too comfortable using the same old shooting modes, and Gavin put me back in touch with manual shooting, using some techniques that I’d never tried once I made the switch to digital photography. I’ve already used zoomed in “Live View” focusing, for instance, to produce some beautifully sharp images in less than ideal conditions. The cost of the workshop was money well spent, and it was a pleasure to work with such a knowledgeable and personable instructor.

Overall it was an outstanding workshop. We visited a wide variety of locations, from a majestic old growth forest to the dramatic rocky coastline of Vancouver Island’s Pacific coast. Gavin was an excellent knowlegable instructor who taught at a speed and technical complexity that was well suited to my experience and skill level. The combination of practice in the field and post processing sessions certainly helped me to develop my photographic skills and allowed me to capture some great images I’ll be proud to show off.

Overall another excellent workshop taught by Gavin. We started by reviewing the basic concepts of HDR photography and then proceeded outside to to practice. Under Gavin’s supervision we took several sets of bracketed photos with our own cameras and then returned to our laptops to process the images using a couple different HDR software applications. The instruction was clear and specific to our cameras, computers and HDR software. The cost of the workshop was well worth it. Thanks Gavin for another great learning experience.

I spent an evening with Gavin while on Vancouver Island. It was well worth it. I am still a beginner when it comes to taking photographs. We discussed aperture, shutter speed, and ISO among many other things. He helped composed some pictures and what things to do to improve those compositions. He taught me and then had me teach him what I had learned. That helped solidify the information and he guided me as I taught him. I was not afraid to say ‘I don’t know’ when he asked questions, which he appreciated so he knew if I was grasping it. We took a lot of pictures and discussed them. He was patient and reassuring during the entire lesson. The entire evening was well worth it.

I was impressed by Gavin’s landscape photographs when I saw them on.line, so I signed up for a class from him. I found out that he’s an excellent teacher as well. His method of teaching makes you experience the process by doing it yourself: making sure you understand how to set up, how to use the setting,for differnt situations and wants you to ask him at any time if you don’t understand. I met the criteria of “beginner” with little difficulty. Brand new to photography, and a first timer at anything close to a course like this, I was welcomed warmly by Gavin and even felt comfortable pulling out my “beginner” camera! Anyone wanting to learn the basic principles of capturing the beauty around us, needs to check out one of Gavin workshops. There were, quite obviously, experienced photographers there too, and I fully believe Gavin was able to add value to each individual. Note to beginners; you may get addicted and find yourself lingering in the camera section at every store after this! Thanks again Gavin, I’ll be back.

I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to go beyond Lightroom in post processing. Photoshop had always seemed confusing and frustrating for me. Gavin is an excellent teacher who has the ability to simplify the confusing parts and walked me through step by step until I felt confident in all the steps -from Bridge to Camera Raw Processing to Photoshop layers and back to saving for print or web. Besides being a very patient and positive instructor with a genuine desire to share his knowledge and skills, he has a great sense of humour that makes learning fun.

Gavin will take you through a steps in order for you to photograph and process the image with ease. Beautiful experience for the first time milky way shooter. Highly recommended!!

I just had to write you and tell you how excited I am to be able to use these presets! I didn’t even own Lightroom when I saw your advertisement for these presets, but between seeing your amazing photographic work and reading the description of this offering, I decided on the spot to go out and buy Lightroom and your presets. I just now downloaded them and played around a little bit and I am SO EXCITED!!!! I am an extreme novice with Lightroom, so I am just fumbling my way around in it until I get the hang of it, but already I am super-impressed with these presets. I started my vacation last night and I’m leaving today for a 3 day trip up to Mono Lake, CA to shoot the Milky Way! So the timing was perfect for me! 🙂

This is so much more than I could have asked for, especially considering the price. Thank you for this!!! I hope one day to meet you in person and personally thank you!

This was an incredible workshop that I would recommend without hesitation. Gavin has extensive knowledge of the region and how to adapt choice of location based on existing weather and light conditions to really get the most out of each shoot. His technique for shooting landscapes was new for me. It took a short period of time to get used to and then I absolutely loved it. I will never shoot landscapes any other way! Plus, he’s a funny and generous and an all-around pleasure to work with. This workshop really exceeded my expectations and I am so thrilled with the photographs I came back with.

I came into the course with limited knowledge and a new camera expecting to be overwhelmed by the photography jargon. I was pleasantly surprised with photographers of all levels and great tuition from Gavin. I took my skills from the basic composition of a picture to full advanced camera settings and digital post-processing in the space of 4 days! I would never have been able to do this without the workshop. As an added bonus you are in one of the most beautiful places in the world! I certainly now have the photography bug.

Would recommend Gavin’s workshops to photographers of all levels. Cheers

This was my first photography workshop and I couldn’t ask for a better experience. Gavin was personable, enthusiastic and very helpful. We had photographers of every level and he spent time with each of us helping with whatever was needed. His lessons on focusing and composition were invaluable. We had post-processing sessions everyday to help us take our images from that day from OK to WOW. Thanks Gavin!

Fantastic as always! I had a great time and really appreciated the patience Gavin showed as we worked through our compositional and technical challenges. Thanks Gavin! Great Instruction. Information was clear and easily understood, with a great relaxed atmosphere. Lots of encouragement with suggestions to further excellence. Really appreciated the tailoring of information with one on one instruction to all skill levels. Even if you are familiar with your camera and the technical settings there is still something for you.

Gavin provided a lot of information about taking HDR shots. We worked through several examples and I gained a much greater understanding of when HDR should be used. I’m looking forward to trying the techniques we covered. Thanks for the seminar, it’s highly recommended. Jack

Another great session Gavin! Got to work immediately after I got home to anchor in the great work flow demo you gave us and to see what I could do with some of my past favourite shots.
