I spent a morning with Gavin about 5 years ago to learn some shooting techniques and since has become second nature in the way I shoot. Over the past few months I’ve spent some time learning some photo editing from Gavin’s video tutorials and again, I really don’t see myself working on my photos in any other way from what I learned from Gavin’
Feel free to use the above on your site with my name. I hadn’t been to Sherman Falls for a couple of years and the last time I was there in Feb I got some nice ice shots. But, we have not had any real winter weather here in southern Ontario this year so there was no ice formations at all and no snow. Just the lovely shades of dead leaf browns, some green stained rocks and flat lighting. Gave me some really good water shutter speed practice. But after spending some time with them I couldn’t believe how the limited amounts of colours popped out from the photos and how colourful a dull photo could really be. I think it’s me getting a good grasp on layer masks and using multiply for colour enhancements. Once I found I was comfortable using them I don’t hesitate trying different adjustments knowing that they are so easy to correct if needed.

Great workshop. Gavin didn’t move on until everyone in the class had understood his methods. Post processing in Camera raw certainly improved the raw file before going into Photoshop. Looking forward to future workshops. Thanks Bob J.

Well I guess that puts an end to my cartoon looking HDR photos. Now I can process them so you are not sure if they are HDR or not which looks way better. Look out Gavin, you might have some new competition! Great course, excellent teacher that is truly passionate about what he does and the workshop was fun.

What a great way to spend a afternoon! Even if you are past the beginner stage in your photography it is great to go out to some different locations and get the perspective of somebody. Gavin was a great teacher with lots of great tips and nobody was left out. I will be heading to the west coast to try out some of these new techniques this weekend, can’t wait! Thanks Gavin! See you again soon.

Lots of information on processing your Raw Files from start to finish. Different ways shown on how to make a average pic look really good. If you are new to Photoshop, this course will help a lot!

I was impressed with the workshop, in part because of all the highlights mentioned in other reviews, but also because Gavin’s questions and instruction forced me to get reacquainted with my camera. I quickly realized I’d been getting too comfortable using the same old shooting modes, and Gavin put me back in touch with manual shooting, using some techniques that I’d never tried once I made the switch to digital photography. I’ve already used zoomed in “Live View” focusing, for instance, to produce some beautifully sharp images in less than ideal conditions. The cost of the workshop was money well spent, and it was a pleasure to work with such a knowledgeable and personable instructor.

Hi Gavin, After attending both your Landscape for beginners and your Post Processing classes , I can honestly say both classes were fantastic. You are an awesome instructor. Your ability to instruct to students regardless of their ability is remarkable. I would highly recommend your classes to anyone wanting to improve their skills in photography and post processing. I am looking forward to taking future workshops with you. Judy

Overall it was an outstanding workshop. We visited a wide variety of locations, from a majestic old growth forest to the dramatic rocky coastline of Vancouver Island’s Pacific coast. Gavin was an excellent knowlegable instructor who taught at a speed and technical complexity that was well suited to my experience and skill level. The combination of practice in the field and post processing sessions certainly helped me to develop my photographic skills and allowed me to capture some great images I’ll be proud to show off.
